Why sign up?

There are many reasons to make the Social Care Commitment.

  • To reach the standards of care required
    • One of the most important areas in which the Social Care Commitment can support you is by generating evidence that demonstrates you are meeting the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards. You can find more information about how the Social Care Commitment maps to the Key Lines of Enquiry on our CQC page. The tasks can also be used as evidence for the Care Certificate and other qualifications.
  • To support staff training
    • The system creates individual and organisational development plans, which help identify learning and development gaps and opportunities. After making the commitment, both employers and employees have access to a range of resources that can help respond to the identified gaps opportunities. The resources also support day-to-day care work such as report writing, upholding dignity and whistleblowing.
  • To raise public confidence in the care sector and to be recognised as a quality provider
    • By making the commitment, employers and employees are making a public declaration, saying that they can trust the support and care they provide is underpinned by strong core values. The public can see which providers have made the commitment on the search page on this website or on NHS Choices.
  • To help find and keep workers
    • Signing up shows a commitment to supporting and developing staff. Current employers feel valued and prospective employees know they are joining an employer who will help them to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • To meet wider workforce requirements
    • The Social Care Commitment can support you to meet other requirements across adult social care. We have produced an infographic that shows the benefits the commitment can bring to the adult social care sector, to the general public and to your business. It also gives an explanation of the Driving Up Quality Code, Investors in People, Think Local Act Personal and the Dementia Pledge and shows how the Social Care Commitment can help you achieve these quality markers. Why sign up to the Social Care Commitment?

The Social Care Commitment is the adult social care sector's promise to provide people who need care and support with high quality services.

It is made up of seven commitments, with seven associated tasks. Each commitment will focus on the minimum standards required when working in care. The commitment aims to increase public confidence in the care sector and raise workforce quality in adult social care.

When you sign up, you'll get access to your own work area which will guide you through each commitment and task. And if you get stuck, our 'Help and support' section will give you the advice you need.
